In addition to our four-year residency program, the Department of Anesthesia also offers an ACGME-Accredited Pain Management Fellowship to qualified candidates.

Our multidisciplinary Pain Management Team consists of anesthesiologists, fellows, residents and a psychologist.  The fellows spend an equal amount of time on the acute, chronic and cancer pain services.  Our hospital is a 412-bed tertiary care facility in a metropolitan area of Central New Jersey. 

Our Acute Postoperative Pain Management Service covers an extremely busy and diverse medical, surgical (adult and pediatric) and labor and delivery services utilizing Continuous Thoracic and Lumbar Epidural Infusions, Patient Controlled Analgesia, and Continuous Neural Blockade Techniques.

The Chronic Pain Management Service evaluates and treats a diversity of pain problems such as:  low back pain, neuropathic pain, myofascial pain and headaches.  We also work with the Oncology Divisions at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and CINJ to provide the most up-to-date pain management techniques for cancer pain patients, including implanted epidural catheters and neuroablative blocks under fluoroscopic and CT scan guidance.

In our Pain Management Fellowship Program, we perform many different kinds of nerve blocks including, cervical, thoracic and lumbar epidural blocks, brachial plexus blocks, lumbar-sacral plexus blocks, stellate ganglion blocks, lumbar sympathetic blocks, facet joint blocks, nerve root injections and cranial nerve blocks under fluoroscopic guidance, and other peripheral nerve blocks.  We also perform state of the art pain treatments such as cryoanalgesia, RFTC neurolysis, spinal cord stimulators, epiduroscopic procedures, discography, nucleoplasty and spinal opioid infusion.  In addition, when necessary patients are evaluated and treated by our psychologist Dr. Greshiak, Ph.D.  Patients are also treated with physical therapy concurrently.

We offer a diverse range of services and provide Pain Management Specialty training with weekly didactic activities which greatly enhances the knowledge and expertise of our pain specialists.

Applicants must have completed an approved four-year residency program in Neurology, Psychiatry, Anesthesiology, or Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and MUST have a New Jersey Medical License. 

Responsibilities of the Fellowship Program include:  On-call rotation on the Acute & Chronic Pain Service, active participation on the clinic and hospital services, lecture series, journal club, administrative responsibilities for the rotating residents program and, clinical and/or basic science research projects. The Pain Fellowship Program is a one year program.
