The Department of Anesthesia offers a course in moderate sedation and analgesia (conscious sedation) for physicians who are involved with the administration of sedation and analgesia in a variety of practice settings.

Our training course is unique since it offers flexibility in time management by utilizing an Internet-based Multimedia Training Program. You have the ability to complete the training course at your own pace. You can access the web site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, whenever you wish, in your office, at home or anywhere you like. You can take the exam whenever it is most convenient to you. You do not need any special computer skills with our on-line program. It is very easy to use.

Course Requirements:

  • Completion of our on-line training course and a passing score of 80% on the exam available on-line.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Define the appropriate clinical situations for which the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations' guidelines for sedation and analgesia apply.
  • Identify medications frequently used for sedation and analgesia, administration guidelines and potential complications/side-effects.
  • Describe specific patient assessment, care and monitoring requirements for the patient receiving sedation and analgesia.
  • Evaluate and manage expected and unexpected outcomes of sedation and analgesia.
