  • April 27, 2005 Yujun Wu, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Biostatistics department, and Biostatistician at the Cancer Institute of New jersey, has been selected by the ASA Biometrics Section as this year's co-winner of the 2005 David P. Byar Young Investigator Award. Dr. Wu's manuscript, "A multivariate two-sample mean test for small sample size and missing data," together with one other manuscript, received the highest ratings among 20 submissions. This annual award is given to a young investigator for the best paper to be presented at the Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM). The award is in memory of Dr. David Byar, an internationally known biostatistician who made significant contributions to the development and application of statistical methods during his career at the National Cancer Institute.

  • April 8, 2005 - The Department of Biostatistics of the UMDNJ School of Public Health co-sponsored a special seminar with the American Statistical Association (ASA) New Jersey Chapter on Friday, April 8, 2005. Zoran Obradovic, Ph.D., was the featured speaker, presenting "Characterization of Gene Functional Expression Profiles of Plasmodium Falciparum." Dr. Obradovic is Director of the Center for Information Science and Technology at Temple University and a Professor of Computer and Information Sciences. Attendees included faculty and students from Rutgers University, William Patterson University, Montclair State University and UMDNJ, as well as professionals from a number of area companies, including AT&T, Johnson & Johnson, and Organon Pharmaceuticals.

    Coordinators of the seminar were Dirk Moore, Ph.D., Associate Professor in Biostatsitics, UMDNJ-SPH, and Shou-En Lu, Ph.D., Assistant Professor in Biostatsitics, UMDNJ-SPH, and current Vice President of ASA-NJ Chapter. The success of this event is attributed to the cooperative efforts of the faculty, staff and students in the Department of Biostatistics: Weichung Joe Shih (Chair), Ph.D., Pamela Ohman-Strickland, Ph.D., current President of the ASA-NJ Chapter, Ms. Patricia Saunders, Department Secretary, and students Dan Sun, John Oleynick, and Jianxin Lin.

  • January 19, 2005 - The Department of Biostatistics now has a new web page. The new web page is based on the old web page, but with a new look and some additional content from the new department brochure.

  • September, 2004 - Dr. Pamela Ohman-Strickland was inducted into the Stuart D. Cook M.D. Master Educator's Guild. The purpose of the Guild is to "recognize University faculty who set the highest standards of academic excellence and have a true gift for teaching".
