Career/Residency Planning
The overall objective
of this career/residency planning website is to provide students
with information and resources that will assist them in making good,
individualized career choices and in navigating the residency match
process successfully. With so many specialty choices available
to students and with events related to career planning beginning
almost immediately after the start of first-year classes, the processes
of gathering information (about yourself and about specialties)
and considering options cannot begin too early. In order to
help guide you through these processes, the website is organized
into the following three sections:
1.
Career/Residency Planning Events
This section provides
a continuously updated list of events that students may find interesting
and useful as they plan for their future careers. This list
will also be posted on the Student Affairs Bulletin Board outside
of the Student Affairs Office (across from the student mailboxes).
2.
Career/Residency Planning Timelines
This section provides
timelines for each semester of the standard, four-year curriculum
at RWJMS. These timelines can serve as general guides, which
suggest activities that are appropriate to complete at each stage
of training.
3.
Career/Residency Planning Resources
This section
provides a multitude of resources - both inside and outside of RWJMS
- to help guide students in planning careers and in applying for
residencies. This section is further subdivided into the categories
outlined below. THE LAST CATEGORY PROVIDES MORE SPECIFIC
AND DETAILED INFORMATION (e.g., a separate timeline and other resources)
FOR EACH STEP OF THE RESIDENCY APPLICATION AND MATCHING PROCESSES,
WHICH BEGIN AT THE END OF THE THIRD YEAR.
