Eric B. Chandler Health Center

The Eric B. Chandler Health Center operated by UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the Eric B. Chandler Community Board, is a comprehensive, family oriented community health center dedicated to the provision of high quality ambulatory care services to low income and medically indigent residents of the Greater New Brunswick community. The Center opened in October 1987 and was dedicated to the memory of Eric B. Chandler, Ed. D., an active and respected community leader recognized for his work in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and a member of the Board of Directors of the Urban League of Greater New Brunswick.

Primary care services provided include: Family Medicine; Internal Medicine; Infectious Disease (HIV counseling / testing / treatment); Pediatrics (including EPSDT and well- child care); Obstetrics and Gynecology; Podiatry; Family Planning; and Dentistry (including preventive / restoration / curative). Other services of the Center include Social Services, Community Outreach, Nutrition, and Health Education. Laboratory services are offered as well.

Services of the Center are provided by appointment. A variety of insurances are accepted including Medicaid, Medicare, and various types of Managed Care and private insurance plans. The center also offers a sliding fee scale, which is updated annually based upon the Federal Poverty guidelines. The Eric B. Chandler Health Center provides a telephone on-call rotation of physicians available 24 hours a day.

The Eric B. Chandler Health Center's Mission is:

* To provide high quality ambulatory health care services that are culturally effective, accessible, affordable, and are provided to patients regardless of their ability to pay.

* To promote a healthy lifestyle and educate patients to take responsibility for and participate in their health and health care decisions

* To provide high quality educational opportunities for medical students, residents, physicians, nursing and other health professional students who train at the Center. All trainees will learn to provide culturally effective, respectful, quality health care in the context of the community

* To serve as a community resource for health and social services
