Continuum of Care/Clinical Services
The CVINJ offers leading edge technology such as cardiac magnetic
resonance imaging, positron emission tomography, ventricular assist
devices and intra-coronary radiotherapy as part of a full spectrum
of cardiac services including:
Preventive Cardiology Services 
- Cardiovascular Disease Screening
- Lipid Clinic
- Blood analysis to determine lipid levels, including a comprehensive
cholesterol evaluation.
- Long-term management of hypercholesterolemia
- Evaluation of diet and nutritional counseling
- Exercise conditioning and support, including consultation with
an exercise physiologist.
Emergency and Cardiac Intensive Care
- Rapid triage, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment ranging
from medical therapy to evaluation for heart transplantation or
heart-assist devices
Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation
- Participate in clinical trials of virtually all investigational
Heart Failure drugs and devices currently being evaluated in the
United States
- Heart Failure Disease Management Program
- Available non-pharmacologic approaches include cardiac resynchronization
therapy devices, defibrillators, coronary revascularization, valve
repair and replacement
- Cardiac transplantation and implantable mechanical devices
Women's Heart Center
- Provide inpatient consultation and outpatient care to women
with heart disease, hypertension and hyper cholesterolemia
- Educate health care professionals and the public on how to recognize
symptoms of heart disease in women
- Conduct research aimed at more effectively diagnosing, preventing
and treating women as well as understanding how heart disease
differs between the sexes
Diagnostic Services
- Laboratory: Lipid risk profile, complete blood count,
electrolyte studies and automated chemistry profile
- Electrocardiography: ECG, treadmill stress test, signal-averaged
ECG, holter monitoring and event monitoring
- Interventional Cardiology: Angiography
- Radiology and Nuclear Medicine: Cardiolite and thallium,
persantine and dobutamine imaging, gated wall motion and thickening
studies, ejection fraction and volumes and cardiac MUGA - multiple
gated acquisition
- Ultrasound: Two-dimensional echocardiogram, with color
flow Doppler, stress echocardiogram, carotid and upper extremity
ultrasound, peripheral imaging (arterial/venous) and transesophageal
echocardiography (TEE)
Treatment Services
- Cardiothoracic Surgery: CABGs, repair of defects in the
heart septum, repair and replacement of defective heart valves,
volume reduction surgery, laser TMR procedures and transplantation
- Interventional Cardiology: Balloon angioplasty, balloon
valvuloplasty, insertion of pacemakers, primary PTCA, insertion
of vascular stents, laser recanalization and thrombolysis
