Education

Education of future leaders in science and            cardiovascular medicine is central to the mission of the Cardiovascular Institute. This strong focus sets the CVINJ apart from other major cardiovascular centers.

Institute faculty members are involved in all levels of pre-doctoral and post-doctoral education within UMDNJ-RWJMS. Third and fourth year medical students are offered numerous cardiovascular-related clinical clerkships in advanced topics in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The Internal Medicine Residency Program as well as the Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology Fellowships provide additional opportunities for clinical training and research. In addition, a variety of regularly scheduled cardiovascular disease - related lectures, journal clubs, and seminars are ongoing at UMDNJ-RWJMS.

The Cardiology Grand Rounds program has been structured to include up-to-date information in the understanding of pathophysiology, epidemiology, clinical manifestations, prevention and medical and interventional treatment. There are four named lectures which include the Peter T. Kuo, MD Memorial Lecture in Cardiology, the John & Regina Heldrich Lecture, The Hadley L. Conn, Jr., MD Memorial Lecture in Medical Education, and the Norman Reitman, MD Lecture in Cardiology.

Continuing medical education emphasizes new interdisciplinary knowledge that will advance translation into preventive strategies and diagnostic methods for cardiovascular diseases. CVINJ organizes conferences and symposia and oversees publication of scientific and clinical findings and training materials for medical professionals.

CVINJ also has an extensive community outreach program that promotes cardiovascular health in New Jersey . This includes community lectures and statewide symposia on cardiovascular health prevention.
