29 CFR 1910.1450 is the OSHA
Lab Standard, Occupational Expousre to Hazardous Chemicals in Laboratories.
Please carefully review the scope of this standard to see if your operations meet the
definition of "laboratory" and "laboratory scale." For
operations outside of the scope of this standard, see the substance specific monitoring
requirements in 29
CFR 1910.1000 (Subpart Z). Please note that the OSHA Lab Standard includes a
requirement to identify "circumstances under which a particular laboratory operation,
procedure, or activity shall required prior approval
" A hazard assessment
program needs to accompany your health exposure program to be effective in reducing risk.
If you have referenced the threshold planning quantity tables of the OSHA
Process Safety Management standard (29 CFR 1910.119) and have no operations which fall
under the scope of the regulation, you are nonetheless highly encouraged to closely review
the content of the standard. The principles and procedures contained in this regulation
will be effective in reducing the frequency of laboratory incidents and can serve as the
basis for key hazard assessment training for students and other laboratory employees.
