Family Medicine specialists care for every member of your family. Family Physicians treat most medical problems that people encounter. Keeping you feeling well and preventing illness is an important part of Family Medicine.
To become a Board Certified Family Physician, a graduate from medical school must obtain three additional years of training in a Family Medicine Residency and pass a Board examination. Family Physicians must also enroll in continuing education programs and be re-certified every six years.
Should you at some time require the services of a different specialist, your family physician will help you find the appropriate practitioner and act as your advocate. Your family physician will remain in contact with you, your family, and the specialist to provide you personal care when the particular specialist is no longer needed.
The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School has been teaching Family Medicine since 1973. |
