Summer Programs

Family Medicine Summer Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC) Assistantship (preclinical program)

Program Goals:

  1. To provide students with an experiential opportunity to learn more about community oriented primary care and the physician's role in the community.
  2. To address unmet heath care needs in the local community.

Be part of an interdisciplinary group of students addressing the health needs of underserved populations in NJ. Students implement a community-based project with a health/social service community organization, participate in an exciting weekly training program with field trips and shadow a physician ½ day/week. Medical students from UMNDJ-affiliated schools as well as out of state are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to RWJ Medical Students and New Jersey residents. This program is partially funded through HRSA BHPr Predoctoral Training grant.

All medical students receive a stipend.

Preclinical Summer Preceptorship

Pre-second year students are selected to participate in this 2-week summer preceptorship. Following a half-day orientation, each student spends 2 weeks, fulltime, with a family doctor in private practice. Students develop skill in patient interviewing, gain familiarity with common problems encountered in family practice and learn about the role of the family physician. Stipend:  $400/two weeks.
