MD/PhD Program Overview
MD/PhD candidates will take their MD training at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the PhD training at one of the three collaborating institutions; RWJMS, Rutgers University, and Princeton University. Participation in graduate programs in areas other than the biological sciences are available.
The usual program will provide three years of graduate studies as follows:
- Year I: Medical Year 1
- Year II: Medical year 2: USMLE Part I
- Year III: Graduate Year 1
- Year IV: Graduate Year 2
- Year V: Graduate Year 3
- Year VI: Medical Year 3
- Year VII: Medical Year 4: USMLE Part II
Select medical school courses (M1 and M2) co-listed as graduate courses are transferred to the graduate program upon advisor selection and program assignment. Additional graduate courses are take as dictated by the program requirements of their specific discipline or the topic of the PhD thesis research. Thus, final course requirements for the PhD are determined by the graduate program of the student. The choice of graduate program is based on the affiliation of the students’ mentor. The graduate program will be from the institution where the faculty member holds their primary appointment and in their primary graduate program.

Faculty
Faculty participating in this program have appointments in one or more the three collaborating institutions: Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Rutgers University and Princeton University, all located in central New Jersey.
Financial Program
Students accepted to the MD/PhD Program will receive tuition payment for all years in addition to a competitive stipend. Competitive stipends are provided in MD and PhD years.
