This is a paragraph of text. You can use this paragraph for the
introduction to your web page.
There are several points to keep in mind when designing a successful
web page:
- Adapt a consistant "look" for your pages.
- Include your name and email address on the page (use the "mailto"
construct to make it easy for readers to mail you their comments.)
- Put the date you last revised the page at the bottom.
- Don't make a "dead end" page--always include a hypertext link to your
home page or another section.
- Limit use of large graphics.
- Hints for creating effective web pages can be found in this
style guide.
- The WWW can make information available to readers in lots of exciting ways.
Information providers will want to consider the appropriateness of creating
multimedia documents.

Setting up your ACS account so you can publish WWW documents
- Log into your UMDNJ ACS Unix account. Select the link below next to
the computer name on which you have your account:
- From the ACS main menu, choose UNIX Commands. At the
Command? prompt, type webme. If you have not created
web pages before, a directory (named www) will be created inside
of which you may store your web pages.
- After you have created your web pages, place them in your www
directory. You must type the webme command again
in order to allow other people to read your HTML files
If you do not do this, you will see a 403 Forbidden...
error message on your web browser when you try and access the file. Be aware
that your HTML file name must end in
.htm or
.html in order to be served properly.
- To access your files, use the following URL:
http://host.umdnj.edu/~acctname/file.html
- host is the name of the computer where your ACS account is
located.
- www is the web server on the Newark campus (njmsa)
- www2 server on the Piscataway campus (rwja)
- www3 is the web server on the Stratford campus
(pearl)
- www4 is the web server on the Camden campus (rwjcam)
- acctname is your ACS computer account login name.
- file.html is the name of your HTML file
