Explanation of Rutgers' student fees.

Statement of Purpose:

The Graduate Student Association of the Joint Program in the Molecular
Biosciences (JBGSA) is an organization which consists of students enrolled
in the various molecular and life science programs at both Rutgers and
UMDNJ. The JBGSA promotes interaction between students and faculty to
further enhance and strengthen the academic programs as well as aid
individual students in their development as scientists. This organization
provides for a better means of communication between faculty and students
and among the students themselves.

The JBGSA has successfully helped in the organization of such events as
student recruitment and incoming student orientation. Well organized
events such as these benefit both faculty as well as existing students by
recruiting high quality individuals which in turn strengthens the
scientific community as a whole. The JBGSA is involved in promoting
scientific interaction among students and between faculty by informing
students of up coming seminars, hosting invited guest lecturers,
sponsoring
student poster sessions and organizing trips to visit local scientific
industries. In addition to scientific interaction, social events such as
the annual graduate student picnic fosters unity between students as well
as faculty.

The JBGSA was established by the students to enhance their educational
experiences at Rutgers/UMDNJ. This organization is student operated and
remains an autonomous body of the graduate school for the purpose of
representing the graduate student body. The opportunities offered by the
JBGSA aid in preparing the student as a well rounded scientist and
individual for life beyond graduate school.
