Message from the Chief
Welcome!
The Division of
Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition is involved in patient care, teaching
and research in a variety of disciplines, including biochemistry and physiology
in addition to primary areas of focus in Endocrinology, Metabolism and
Nutrition. Division research is focused on hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis,
diabetes, exercise physiology, calcium metabolism and osteoporosis.
Skilled faculty,
including physician specialists, researchers, nurse specialists, dietiticians
and laboratory personnel provide comprehensive clinical care for health
problems, including diabetes mellitus, thyroid, adrenal and pituitary
gland conditions, osteoporosis and calcium metabolism issues, hypercholesterolemia,
atherosclerosis, obesity, nutrition, and sexual dysfunction. Division
faculty members also serve as directors of the Regional Osteoporosis and
Diabetes Centers.
Members of the
division participate in teaching at all levels, which include medical
students in the first year: biochemistry, physiology, clinical correlation;
the second year: pathophysiology course and physical diagnosis course;
the third year: clinical management case discussions; and, the fourth
year: participation of medical students in clinical and research
endocrinology electives.
At the postgraduate
level, faculty members mentor resident physicians and clinical and research
fellows in both bench and clinical research. Our physicians also serve
as attending physicians for general medical, endocrine-related and nutritional
consultations on a daily basis throughout the year at Robert Wood Johnson
University Hospital and other affiliated facilities.
