Entering the Graduate Program with Advanced StandingRequirements for Students Entering the Program with Advanced Standing Sections
Course RequirementsThe MGM&I Academic Standing Committee and the Student's research sponsor, if already selected, will evaluate the student's academic background, and select with the student the courses which must be taken in addition to those previously completed. No more than 24 course credits may be transferred from another institution, and the requirement of a minimum of 32 total course credits must in any case be met. Qualifying Exam The MGM&I Academic Standing Committee will in addition determine when the Qualifying Exam should be taken. It will generally consist of two parts:
The examining committee should consist of a minimum of three faculty members, two of whom should be members of the Molecular Genetics, Microbiology & Immunology graduate program. The members are to be chosen by the student and approved in writing (email is ok) by the Chair of the Program Academic Standing Committee. The student's thesis advisor shall not be present during the exam, and will not participate in the final decision as to whether the student passes or fails. Thesis Committee and DefenseThe requirements and conditions are as described above for students entering through the Molecular Biosciences program. |
