Evaluations
Evaluations are an important part of residency training, as they allow the
faculty to monitor the residents' progress as well as receive feedback from the
residents. Evaluations of the residents are written by the director of each
rotation and faculty members with whom the resident interacted on that rotation.
The resident has the opportunity to read and respond to the evaluation. The
faculty review each resident formally, biannually, and the result of each review
is discussed at a meeting between the resident and the program director each
autumn and spring. The spring meeting also involves discussion of the
resident’s performance on the Resident In service Examination (RISE), which
serves as an index
of the progress the resident is making in acquiring pathology knowledge and
diagnostics skills. Once a year, the residents are required to comment, in
confidence, on the educational merit of
rotations and the faculty that they have experienced . The purpose of all this evaluation cross-talk is to ensure that
the resident is making appropriate progress in the program, and to continually
monitor and improve the educational process.
Typical forms utilized in this process are available for your review:
