HEMATOPATHOLOGY
The primary focus of the program is to provide 1) state of the art diagnostic services that integrate morphologic, immunophenotypic, molecular genetic and ultrastructural studies, and 2) fellowship training that emphasizes the development of academic hematopathologists. Current aims of active investigation include ____. The division offers a ___ year ACGME accredited fellowship which emphasizes diagnostic hematopathology. The diagnostic immunopathology and molecular genetic laboratories of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital are an integral part of the program and provide opportunities for training for both residents and fellows. The Hematopathology Laboratory signs out approximately ____ consults and referral cases per year as well as all Hematopathology cases (____/yr, including bone marrows ____/yr, cytology _____/yr) from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, as well as Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton and Southern Ocean County Hospital. Data from flow, immunoperoxidase, cytochemical and molecular genetics studies are integrated into final sign-outs. Fellows participate actively in student and resident education and in clinical conferences and clinical-pathologic case analyses in collaboration with clinical colleagues. Overnight express delivery is strongly recommended, particularly for urgent cases. Courier services are available by contacting Mr. Robert Shonk at (732) 937-8586. Evaluation of cases includes light microscopic examination of histopathologic material and, when appropriate, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, molecular genetics and electron microscopy. The referring pathologist/clinician will be contacted after receipt of the consult with a preliminary diagnosis or final diagnosis (if no further studies are necessary). A copy of the final report will be faxed upon final sign-out of the case. A hard copy will be sent via regular mail.
