Pathology's intellectual property

Pathologists will play a central role in future medical education as trained anatomists, histologists, molecular and cellular biologists, microbiologists, clinical chemists and as practicing physicians. We must design and implement a modern and rigorous course of study which provides a foundation for diagnosing and understanding diseases. Diagnosing for the pathologist is different from that of other clinicians in that it is more heavily weighted to reasoning from first principles. The clinicians' paradox is an opportunity for pathologists to teach molecular medicine to their colleagues.
