Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Pediatrics at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The
Department’s mission is to protect and ensure the health and
well-being of all children. We are dedicated to advancing
the field of pediatrics through patient services, research, education,
and advocacy. We are committed to providing multi-disciplinary
family-centered care with respect, compassion and the highest standards
of excellence. The mission is shared in conjunction with the Bristol-Myers
Squibb Children's Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
The Department is comprised of more than 155 faculty and over 134 volunteer faculty members. Divisions include the major pediatric subspecialties including: Adolescent medicine, Allergy, Critical care, Cardiology, Developmental Disabilities, Emergency medicine, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Pediatrics, Genetics, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Neonatology, Nephrology, Neurology, Pulmonology and Rheumatology.
The Department is proud
of its pediatric programs and centers of excellence including:
The Cystic Fibrosis Center, The Boggs Center, Institute of Child
Development, RWJ AIDS Program, hematology-oncology, pediatric and
neonatal transport services, renal transplant program, diabetes
program, cardiology and cardiac surgery program, Epilepsy program,
Headache Clinic, Nutrition, Sleep , pulmonary function, asthma and
clinical toxicology programs.
In addition the Department
has opened the Bristol-Myers Squibb centers of excellence in Metabolism,
Infectious Diseases and Rheumatology providing the opportunity to
expand our services with these new centers.
As part of its educational mission, the Department provides outstanding educational programs as demonstrated by its pediatric residency program, fellowships and continuing medical education. The Department participates in community outreach and patient education programs. The Department conducts clinical research studies as well as the molecular biology of development and developmental pharmacology. The Pediatric Clinical Research Center (PCRC) is available to provide core infrastructure and service to investigators in the department and assists with the expansion of access to innovative clinical trials and novel treatments for children.
