M.S. and Ph.D. degrees
may be pursued under the supervision of faculty members of the Department
of Physiology & Biophysics under the auspices of any of the following
graduate programs, to which application should be made directly.
All of the programs are administered jointly by Rutgers University
and UMDNJ.
1. THE GRADUATE PROGRAM IN PHYSIOLOGY AND INTEGRATIVE
BIOLOGY
The Graduate Program in Physiology and Integrative Biology (PIB)
is jointly sponsored by the UMDNJ-Graduate School of Biomedical
Science and the Graduate School-New Brunswick of Rutgers University.
This program is designed to provide training at the interface of
genomics, cell biology and organismal physiology. Specific topics
include molecular endocrinology, cardiovascular research, cancer
biology, membrane structure and signal transduction, and the physiological
bases of diseases. Students entering the PIB will receive their
degree from both UMDNJ-Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and
Rutgers University-Graduate School-New Brunswick. Most students
will receive full tuition waiver, a stipend, and health benefits
for the duration of their studies. Rutgers University campus housing
may be available.
PIB is part of the Consolidated Programs
in Molecular Biosciences co-sponsored by UMDNJ and Rutgers University.
Students will enter PIB by applying to the Consolidated Programs
in Molecular Biosciences. Direct admissions to PIB will also be
considered for students with advanced background (e.g. students
transferring from other universities with advanced courses or M.S.
degree). In this case, certain credit hours can be transferred toward
the graduate degree (upon approval of the Graduate Education Committee
of PIB). In addition, a program leading to a Master of Sciences
in Physiology and Integrative Biology will be offered in PIB, to
meet the needs of students with particular interests. Information
about the Graduate Programs will be available by contacting:

2. GRADUATE PROGRAM IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
Rutgers University Department of Biomedical
Engineering and the Joint Graduate Program in Biomedical Engineering
offer incoming students a choice between two strong options both
for the M.S. and the Ph.D. degrees: (I) Physiological Systems and
Biomedical Instrumentation and (II) Biomechanics and Biomaterials.
Along with these options a number of courses are offered for your
education by a variety of professors both from Rutgers and UMDNJ.
As indicated from the list of publications following each faculty
member and their research interests, they are active in research
and well established in their careers. Each student will choose
one among them to be their advisor in research and their mentor
in their future success. Members of this program from the Department
of Physiology & Biophysics include Drs. Kedem,
Partridge and Weiss.
