The Rotary Club of Plainsboro, New Jersey and GOPIO (Global Organization of People of Indian Origin) of Central Jersey conducted a free Medical Camp on September 27th at the Durga Mandir in South Brunswick, NJ. SATHI members Dr. Maya Ramagopal and Dr. Sunanda Gaur manned a table and gave out health information to fair attendees. More than 130 people attended the fair. Read more
April 17, 2008 The Department of Health and Human Services/Office of Minority Health granted SATHI an award in the amount of $2,500 to hold a Networking and Capacity Building Event which will formally launch SATHI to the South Asian community. Check this site for event details. March 6, 2008SATHI received a Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation Quality of Life Grant in the amount of $13,000 to provide disability outreach to the Central New Jersey South Asian population. This grant will fund a radio show "Disabilities in the South Asian Community" a twice monthly call in radio show on EBC Radio - 1170 a.m. on Monday morning 8:00 to 8:30 am. 11/29/07 Edison Town Meeting Focuses on Childhood Obesity, Physical Activity and Nutrition-- Pediatricians The South Asian Total Health Initiative (SATHI) at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School , a community outreach program aimed at addressing the health-related needs of the South Asian community, is sponsored a free town meeting in collaboration with Edison Township to promote healthy habits in children of South Asian descent. The event took place on Thursday, November 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Edison Council Chambers, 100 Municipal Boulevard , Edison, and featured Fred M. Jacobs, MD, JD, commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health and Human Services, in addition to nutrition and obesity experts.
