Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship

The Vascular and Interventional Radiology Fellowship is one of the educational programs of the Department of Radiology of the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School . This 12-month fellowship takes place primarily at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital . The Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital is a 584-bed tertiary care hospital and the primary teaching hospital of the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School . The St. Peter's University Hospital is a major teaching hospital of the UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and one of the sites for resident education for the Radiology Residency Program. The Vascular/Interventional Radiology Fellow will occasionally rotate to this site for cases of exceptional educational merit. The fellow will also cover emergency cases at this site as part of the Vascular/Interventional Radiology call schedule.

The Radiology Department of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital performs approximately 212,000 diagnostic radiology examinations a year. Approximately 6,800 vascular/interventional radiology examinations or procedures are performed each year by five vascular/interventional radiologists and three neuro/interventional radiologists, all with CAQ certification. Typically, two vascular/interventional radiologists and one neuroradiologist are present in the Radiology Department of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital . All vascular/interventional radiology procedures, both diagnostic and therapeutic, are performed by vascular/interventional or neuro/interventional radiologists.

Upon completion of the Vascular/Interventional Radiology Fellowship Program, the fellow will be competent in and have developed expertise to perform Vascular/Interventional Radiology procedures using multiple imaging modalities including:

•  Diagnostic Angiography

•  Biopsies

•  Drainage Procedures

•  Interventional Vascular Procedures

•  Venous Access

•  Dialysis Access and Intervention

•  Urologic Interventions and Procedures

•  Percutaneous Biliary Procedures and Interventions

•  Interpretation of Imaging related to these procedures ( MRI , US , CT, CTA, etc.)

 

UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson is also one of the approved sites for The Direct Pathway.
