| Description: |
The Internet is a data communication network used by millions
of computers around the world to exchange information with one another.
The World Wide Web (WWW) is a vast collection of information stored on computers connected by the Internet. The WWW is the most popular way to access information using the Internet. Most WWW documents include hypertext links, which are pointers to other WWW documents. These documents may include text, pictures, sounds, movies, and interactive forms. People involved in research, academics, administration, and clinical work will find it useful to know how to efficiently access information using the Internet in today's information age. Scientific databases (e.g., MEDLARS, TOXNET, and GenBank maintained by the U.S. National Library of Medicine), clinical journals (e.g., the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report maintained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), and library information (e.g., holdings at UMDNJ libraries as well as many others around the world) are all examples of resources that can be accessed from the World Wide Web.
