PRESENTATION CATALOGS
The SCNJ provides educational programs on SIDS risk reduction, safe infant care practices, SIDS research and bereavement support to health care professionals and consumers throughout the state of New Jersey.
Educational presentations are offered by the SCNJ to the following groups, however, information can be modified to meet the needs of groups that are not listed. For further information or to make a request for an educational program, contact the SIDS Center of NJ, (732) 249-2160 or (800) 545-7437.
- Physicians - Presentations are tailored to the needs of the physician and address parent bereavement, recent research on SIDS and its risk factors and parent education.
- Nurses - Nurse offerings are available to meet the needs of the Emergency Department, School, Obstetrical, Pediatric and Home Care nurse. Specific interventions are covered that the nurse can employ to assist the family in its grief process.
- Social Workers - Medical information is offered and counseling techniques for SIDS families are introduced.
- Child Care Providers- Presentations focus on SIDS, grief, SIDS risk reduction and implications for the child care provider.
- Clergy - Presentations focus on the definition of SIDS and reactions and needs of SIDS families.
- Emergency Medical Technicians - The first responder session is offered to EMT and Paramedic groups with the focus upon SIDS medical facts, grief, the response of families in a crisis situation and how the first responder can help the family cope with this tragic event.
- Funeral Directors - Sessions cover SIDS, resources available for the SIDS families, the grief process and information for the families on planning an infant funeral.
- General public - All presentations can be modified to meet the specific needs of the individual or group.
- Medical Investigators - Presentations focus upon SIDS, the grief process, death scene investigation and resources available to the bereaved family.
- Peer Support and Speaker's Bureau- SCNJ conducts peer support training and speakers' bureau training to families who have volunteered to help newly bereaved parents and to speak at professional/public forums with SCNJ staff.
- Police Officers - Similar to the program offered to EMTs, the police officer session will focus on finding answers with compassion, death scene investigation and techniques the officer may find helpful in assisting the family coping.
- Students - Seminars are available for students interested in the grief process, research, pediatrics and public health.
