G-coupled protein receptors are membrane-bound proteins when coupled to their respective hormones regulate a number of important physiological processes like pregnancy and metabolism. We are presently exploring the dynamics of hormone-receptor complexes to gain insight into the functioning of these complex molecular switches.
The illustration to the left is TSH (red/blue dimer) bound to its receptor (purple) which interacts with the g-protein (orange) on the interior of the cell. The lipid bilayer is colored gray.
