Left Ventricular Assist Device

The left ventricular assist device (LVAD) is an implanted pump that receives blood from a cannula in the left ventricular apex and pumps it to the ascending aorta. The transesophageal echo images below show the tip of the cannula in the left ventricular apex. The aortic valve remains closed throughout the cardiac cycle.
